Nitrile Rubber (NBR)

Nitrile rubber (NBR) is the common term used to describe Acrylonitrile Butadiene Copolymer, a thermoset elastomer which is the most common sealing material used in industry today.

Nitrile rubber compounds offer good resistance to compression set, extrusion and abrasion while being relatively low in cost.

The major influence that determines the physical properties of Nitrile is the Acrylonitrile content of the compound (or ACN as it is commly referred to). A Nitrile compound with a high ACN content will provide the material with improved abrasion resistance, tensile strength and a greater resistance to oils and solvents. A Nitrile with a lower ACN content however offers the material better low temperature flexibility and improved resilience.

DMR Seals offer a number of Nitrile compounds which have been formulated to suit a wide range of applications. Detailed below is a list of our standard Nitrile (NBR) materials, please contact our technical department for further advice or if the compound you require is not shown.

Description

A general purpose NBR / Nitrile / BUNA-N, with good physical characteristics and chemical resistance to the most common hydraulic industry fluids such as Mineral Oils, HFA, HFB and HFC.

A general purpose NBR / Nitrile / BUNA-N with increased hardness.
A general purpose NBR / Nitrile / BUNA-N with increased hardness.

A soft NBR / BUNA-N, which has excellent elasticity and compression-set characteristics, making it an excellent choice for low-pressure hydraulic and pneumatic seals or energising elements for composite type seals.

A white sulphur cured NBR which is a good choice for food and beverage applications.
Approvals: EU (EC) 1935/2004 Compliant

A blue NBR material, suitable for food contact use.
Approvals: EU (EC) 1935/2004 Compliant

A general purpose NBR / Nitrile / BUNA-N, coloured white for easier identification and to help prevent possible cross contamination with other grades of material that are the standard black colour.

A soft NBR material that has been modified to provide excellent low-temperature flexibility and elasticity.
